The Golden Wastes
Mother of Worms
No figure is as hated and feared as the Mother of Worms. Two thousand years ago she achieved mastery of the world, and destroyed the old kingdoms of Man. Through guile, deceit, and eventually brute force she enslaved the nations and established her tyranny. Although the Mother of Worms appeared human, legend holds that she descended from half-Jinn and half-giantess, and thus not even partially human. Although it was said she was a beautiful woman (or at least appeared in the guise of such), she suckeled death and gave birth only to ruin and despair.
Although initially content to rule the world in terror, her real goal was to murder the world, and she enforced a particularly obscene and horrific ideology. The Mother of Worms searched for the Deplorable Word which would end all life on Orbis. She was the great whore of the Ancients.
The Mother of Worms was said to be physically powerful and amazonian, capable of breaking iron with her bare hands and lifting human beings off their feet, but it was her mastery of magic which gave her true power. A natural-born sorceress and a cunning strategist, she was arrogant and cruel, considering herself above all rules and viewing others as tools to be used or obstacles to be demolished.
She gathered around her the most evil men and women around the world, who thought only of their own desires and wants and betrayed the world of men. Foremost was the man named Breschau, a figure almost as hated as the Mother of Worms herself.
She ruled for many years, but the Unconquered Sun sent a champion to save the world, a poor peasant boy who became the greatest hero who ever lived, Cyrin the Great. It was Cyrin, and his Seven Companions, who started the first successful revolt. Although it would take many years of struggle, Cyrin and his Companions would destroy the Mother of Worms and bring her servants to justice. When Cyrin himself renounced any temporal power and achieved godhood as the Conciliator and saviour of mankind, it was his Hieron friend and companion Sikander who took the responsibility of defending the realms of men and became the First Sovereign Emperor.
The evil of the Mother of Worms has long outlived her. She destroyed much knowledge of the old civilizations during her reign of terror, and unleashed vast new evils that still torment the world today.
