The Golden Wastes
The Rakshasa are creatures of Chaos, particularly malevolent Yaksha who rule a demiplane called the Black Taj. There the malevolent Rakshasa rule over enslaved Lemures, evil people born into that life as punishment by the karmic cycle. They are subjected to all sorts of punishments there, but eventually they “die” and are reincarnated after they have paid off their karmic debt.
The Rakshasa are plotting the downfall of man and trapping him in the world’s delusions. Although the Black Taj is accessible to men, it is perilous to visit. The demiplane is utterly corrupt, and few would even contemplate visiting there – it is literally hell. Rakshasa plots are subtle and long term. They do not intend to conquer the world, merely corrupt enough men to prevent spiritual enlightenment and keep it mired in misery. History indicates the Rakshasa must be very good at this.
While there are some “Rakshasa Kingdoms” (actually a small area of terrorized by a local Rakshasa) sequestered in the wilderness, most Rakshasa plot in secret, assuming forms where they can cause trouble without suspicion. This could be anywhere from a local “lineage” of aristocrats (where the single Rakshasa reinvents himself every generation as his own heir) to a neighborhood tomcat prowling about overhearing gossip and secrets.
